Expanded Victorian Bungalow, Lindfield

The young owners of Cheltenham, a local heritage item, sought a Sydney Architect to renovate and expand their hundred-year-old home. They approached Michael Bell Architects to restore the house to something that would maintain the heritage feel and be functional for their growing family. A large grey iron bark at the rear of the dwelling prevented a single storey addition to extend across the 1600 square metre block. Instead, the ...building was extended with a two-storey addition at the rear in a manner that maintained the single storey local heritage listed presence at the street frontage. Michael has always admired Edna Walling’s beautiful landscape plans and designed the swimming pool to be tucked away as a surprise at the rear of the garden, leaving a large Myles Baldwin lawn garden to fall gracefully away from the residence. The client now takes full advantage of the opportunity to entertain in the adjacent alfresco dining and pool rooms. The result is a stunning home improvement, transforming old and tired to fresh and functional.
